Norway Spruce is a fast-growing coniferous evergreen that can reach 60 feet tall, and occasionally to 100 feet. Young trees have thin bark that thickens to a grayish brown scale-like texture as it matures. A hardy species with dense draping branches, good for windbreaks, screening, blocking farm odors, and large-scale landscapes. They are more tolerant to deer than pines, provide good wildlife cover and their cones are favored by Red-breasted Nuthatch. Full sun and moist to well-drained, acidic soils are preferred by this tree.
