Red oak prefers full sun and acidic, well-drained sandy loam but is pretty adaptable. This species will survive when exposed to air pollution but develops chlorosis in high pH soils. Grows 60-75' tall with a wide root base making it quite stable. In the fall, bright red to orange leaves will illuminate it's canopy for a beautiful sight but will require a significant amount of leaf clean up for mature trees in urban settings.
